The Road Less Traveled

The Road Less Traveled

When I was a young girl, teachers and other leaders would often ask me the familiar question many of us heard growing up: What do you want to be when you grow up?” My answer was simple and sincere—“I want to help others.” It was a common response, yet deeply rooted in who I was becoming.

As I grew older, that desire began to take shape. I discovered that teaching was a powerful way to serve others, and I felt drawn to education. What I couldnt have imagined at the time was how far that calling would lead me—from earning a masters degree in education to eventually opening a massage therapy school.

Many individuals who enroll in massage therapy school are motivated by the same desire I had as a child: to help people. They recognize that massage therapy allows others to feel better, heal, and function more fully, and they see that as a meaningful way to live out their purpose. The flexibility of creating ones own schedule and fee structure is also appealing when choosing this career path.

However, massage therapy school—and the profession itself—is not easy.

Students must develop a deep understanding of the human body, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, history, and a wide range of massage modalities. Beyond hands-on skills, they must also learn ethics, professional standards, business practices, and how to market themselves effectively. Equally important is learning how to carry oneself with confidence, integrity, and professionalism.

Helping people is rewarding, but it requires serious commitment. Therapists must be diligent about their own body mechanics to protect their health and longevity in the profession. Serving others often means working days and hours that may feel inconvenient at times. This is a career that demands presence, sacrifice, and consistency.

Yet the reward is profound.

When you reach your hand out to help others, it is met with trust, gratitude, and connection. Referrals begin to grow, schedules fill, and genuine healing takes place. The journey is not always easy, but it is deeply fulfilling. It is worth every step.

Massage therapy is a calling that requires grit, purpose, and intention—and for those willing to commit to the process, it offers the opportunity to truly make a lasting impact in the lives of others.
